NICOLAS MAXENCE JUPILLAT

NICOLAS MAXENCE JUPILLAT: Nicolas graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in the top 10% of his class, specializing in Law and Technology. He also obtained a French law degree from the University of Auvergne (France) and a Master’s degree in geopolitics from Panthéon-Sorbonne University (Paris 1) and École Normale Supérieure de Paris. Nicolas is a native French speaker and is conversational in Spanish. A former adjunct professor of law, Nicolas came to employment litigation out of a desire to make a tangible difference for clients. Prior to joining ILG Legal Office, he practiced in the areas of securities and corporate law as well as clerked in the field of criminal defense. Nicolas, educated in France, the Netherlands, and the United States, brings years of professional experience in academia, government, and business in North America, Europe, and West Africa. In 2014, he joined the faculty of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where he taught various courses at the intersection of technology, human rights, and humanitarian law for four years. His scholarship was published in highly regarded law reviews and has been cited in peer-reviewed journals around the world. In 2015, Nicolas conducted research at the University of Ottawa and was one of only two recipients of Google’s Policy Fellowship in Canada. Before moving to the United States, Nicolas produced the French Defense Ministry’s first comprehensive study on the law of cyber warfare and became the first French national to join NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence. He also served as a liaison officer on behalf of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Nicolas volunteered with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to help develop ethical standards in Artificial Intelligence and led an international team of lawyers in the official French translation of Creative Commons 4.0 copyright licenses. He has also volunteered with Amnesty International and the University of Detroit Mercy Immigration Law Clinic.
